Trends in HD Genetic Testing

From the Winter 2000 issue of Hopes & Dreams, newsletter of the Illinois Chapter, Huntington's Disease Society of America.

Based on information obtained at the U.S. HD Genetic Testing Group (GTC) workshop on October 4, 2000 in Philadelphia, trends observed from 31 reporting sites estimate that 350 - 400 predictive tests for HD per year have been performed over the past few years.

Age groups most frequently requesting tests were 30 - 39 and in every age category more females than males requested predictive testing.

The number of prenatal tests performed each year is very low, with survey results showing no more than 12 per year.

HDSA currently supports the GTG through a $5,000 grant.
