Message From the President

Barry Kahn

From the Fall 2002 issue of Hopes & Dreams, newsletter of the Illinois Chapter, Huntington's Disease Society of America.

It is hard to believe that I am starting my third term as President. As I look back over the last six years since joining the Board, I take pride in the accomplishments we have made, and yet there is so much left to be done. Our work is really just beginning.

As you can see on the last page of this newsletter, our Calendar of Events shows our determination to raise funds to be used for Patient and Family Care, Research and Education. This is the only way to treat and eventually find a cure for this horrible disease that has ravished so many of our families. I need your help to make each and every event a success. I need you to look deep inside yourself and ask, "what can I do to make these events successful?" Attend when you can! Work on committees when you can! Pay your dues when you receive your statement! Help us help you!

I am excited to announce that on September 20, 2003, we are hosting our first Bound by Hope dinner to raise funds necessary to open our own Huntington's Disease Family and Patient Care Center, a joint venture between Rush Presbyterian and Cook County Hospitals. You will receive more detailed information on the Event and Center as we move closer to the date.

Thank you again for all that you have done and all that you will continue to do for the future. If I can be of assistance to you in any way, call me in the evenings at (847) 438-2403 or email me at barrykhan@megapathdsl.net
